What makes you a L I O N?
@_jessicabird: “My will and determination to do what it takes to get things done makes me a lion. Walking from Mexico to Canada taught me at great lengths that I am the single driving force of my life, that no one else can or will step in to solve my problems or accomplish my goals. It’s liberating, that realization – the reigns are in my hands and I’m not holding them feebly waiting for another to take over so that I don’t… What? Make a mistake? I thrive on my mistakes. That is what makes me fierce.”
What makes you H U M B L E?
@_jessicabird: “My understanding that I can’t know what I don’t know makes me humble. This was the motto of someone I once worked for and I’ve clung to it like it’s the only thing that makes sense. Like a child I try to approach situations with an openness and a desire to learn and overcome that allows a more positive perspective, because when I discard my expectations I am better prepared for what may come.”
@_jessicabird was my neighbor and best friend when I was a kid. We had a little path cut through the woods for a safer route between our houses than walking country roads. She’s a genuine badass and has been for as long as I can remember. If she isn’t fearless, she puts on a dang good facade. I’m grateful for the bit of time I got to spend with her a few weeks ago. We had some cabernet and dark chocolate, caught up on life, and had the kind of conversation that reminds you how big of a gift life is. Crazy how you can pick up right where you left off, even after nearly two decades.
Extra fun fact: she’s camera shy, but you would never have guessed it.
